French consumers are just as concerned about plastic, if not more so, than in other countries, according to a recent survey by Smurfit Kappa, whose main interests are in other packaging materials.
• 85% say plastic bags are among the most polluting, followed by 55% mentioning water bottles.
• 78% believe plastic is unnecessary for food packaging.
• 80% would support a brand showing respect for the environment.
• 83% mentioned recyclability and 76% cited bio-based as among their top 3 environmental criteria for choosing packaging.
On average, French consumers would pay 0.22 euros more for environmentally friendly packaging. Young consumers aged 18-24 would pay 0.48 euros more, while consumers aged over 55 years would pay 0.15 euros more.
