Good news for UK on salt
Credit where credit’s due. Britain now has the lowest salt intake of any developed country in the world.
Average daily consumption has fallen from 9.5 grams to 8.1 grams in 2011. 42% of women and 20% of men are now achieving the recommended World Health Organisation target of no more than 6 grams.
Turn these figures upside down and, of course, there is still a big problem, but the shift does show that concerted action by government and the food industry working together can make real progress.
