  • Dubai Refreshment is Pepsi bottler, which opened new facility in 2016, with investment of $180 million. Production spans carbonates, juices, teas and water, with lines for cans, glass and PET including blow moulding. There are 11,000 solar panels installed on the roof.

       

    Mai Dubai is owned by Dubai Energy & Water Authority and started operations in 2014. It completed a major expansion in 2019. “Mai” is the Arabic word for water. Production includes lines for PET, glass, cups and 5 gallon polycarbonate as well as pre-forms and blow moulding. Other features are solar panels for energy, extensive automation and high bay warehousing.

 Tim Brett, President of Coca-Cola Europe

Tim Brett is the President of The Coca-Cola Company’s Western Europe business unit. He was previously responsible for the company’s operations throughout Japan.

Brett joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1997 in the marketing function in Romania. In 1999, he joined one of Coca-Cola’s largest bottlers -- Coca-Cola Hellenic – in the Czech Republic with responsibility for commercial strategy. Tim was appointed General Manager of The Coca-Cola Company in the Czech Republic in 2001. He moved to Warsaw, Poland in 2003 to lead the company’s business in Poland and the Baltic States. In 2006, he moved to Vienna and was named President of the Alpine business unit which included Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia. This business unit was later expanded to include Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, FYROM and Montenegro.

Brett moved to Coca-Cola Japan in March 2011 as Executive Vice President with responsibility for franchise operations and commercial leadership. Before joining The Coca-Cola Company, Brett held marketing positions in the UK for United Distillers, The Guinness Group and Walkers Snack Foods, Frito-Lay. Brett holds an M.A. degree in History from The University of St. Andrews in the United Kingdom.


 Henri Bruxelles, Executive Vice President - Waters & Africa for Danone Waters

Henri Bruxelles started his career at Danone in 1987 where he had several assignments in Marketing in Germany, France, Spain and Brazil as VP Marketing for Danone Brazil in 1998. 

In 2002, he was appointed VP Marketing of Danone France and in 2004, VP Marketing of Dairy WWBU. Then in 2008, he was Chief Marketing Officer of Danone. 

In 2010, he was appointed General Manager of Danone Portugal and, in 2013, General Manager of Danone Argentina. 

 Maurizio Patarnello, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Waters

Maurizio Patarnello graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in business administration.  He is also a graduate of the IMD Business School and has an MBA from STOA Business School.  He joined Nestlé, the large Swiss F&B company, in 1993 where he has spent the majority of his career.  He held various positions in finance over six years before joining San Pellegrino.  He took on different positions of increasing responsibility at Nestlé Waters and overseas, notably in the Middle East region, before being appointed to the position of Market Head in the Ukraine and then Russia.  He has been the CEO of Nestlé Waters since the 1st of January 2017.

Nestlé Waters is the bottled water division of the Nestlé Group.  Its leading brands are Perrier, S. Pellegrino, Nestlé Pure Life, Vittel and Contrex.

 Simon Lowden, President and Chief Marketing Officer - Global Foods at PepsiCo

Simon Lowden is the President of PepsiCo Global Foods. PepsiCo products are enjoyed by consumers more than one billion times a day in more than 200 countries and territories around the world, and generated more than $64 billion in net revenue in 2018, driven by a complementary food and beverage portfolio that includes Frito-Lay, Gatorade, Pepsi-Cola, Quaker and Tropicana. PepsiCo's product portfolio includes 22 brands that generate more than $1 billion each in estimated annual retail sales.

Lowden has built a global reputation for leading transformative brands and innovation, fostering best-in-class marketing capabilities and shepherding collaborative functional teams, culled from more than two decades of experience across multiple businesses and roles in multinational companies such as PepsiCo and Unilever.
Now, as President, PepsiCo Global Foods, Lowden, is applying his vision and talent to drive growth across the global foods category, which includes four of PepsiCo’s billion dollar brands – LAY’S, Doritos, Cheetos and Quaker.

Since August 2018, Lowden has also been leading the PepsiCo Plastics Agenda, charged with steering the vision, critical partners and innovation initiatives to lead PepsiCo’s plastics reduction agenda. He is also responsible for media and content, overseeing the in-house PepsiCo Content Studio and Global Media Center of Excellence.

Before joining Global Foods, Lowden was Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, PepsiCo North America Beverages, where he oversaw the transformation of PepsiCo’s North American beverage portfolio through a renewed consumer marketing effort and a step change in product innovation.
Additional PepsiCo leadership roles have included, Chief Marketing Officer of PepsiCo International for five years, where he was responsible for the development of PepsiCo’s Food and Beverage portfolio across more than 100 developing and developed markets around the world, as well as Vice President of Marketing, CSDs for PepsiCo International.

Lowden joined PepsiCo from Unilever in 1996 as the Marketing Director in the United Kingdom before moving into a pan-European assignment. He began his career at Unilever where he honed his trade on brands such as Lynx and Axe. Lowden holds a BSC in Geography and Geomorphology from Kings College, London. A huge sports enthusiast, Lowden was an avid rugby player and now spends his time competing in triathlons, including the internationally renowned Ironman. Lowden is also a member of the client councils at Facebook and Twitter.

 Tariq Al Wahaedi, Cheif Executive Officer of Agthia Group

Tariq Ahmed Saeed Al Wahedi joined Agthia in September 2015 as COO leading the manufacturing and supply chain operations of the Group. In November 2016, he was appointed as Acting Executive Vice President of Agri Business in addition to his COO responsibilities. Tariq is currently the CEO of Agthia Group PJSC since July 2017.

Tariq is a UAE national who graduated in Engineering from the University of Tulsa and holds an Executive MBA from Kellogg School of Management. He also serves on numerous boards as Board Member and Advisor to various non-profit organizations and companies across diversified industries including logistics, building materials and industrial development.

Prior to joining Agthia, Tariq held senior executive positions, most recently in Senaat, and prior to that in the Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corp, for 8 years.

 Tarek El Sakka, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Refreshment

Tarek is a 30-year-old veteran of the FMCG business. He is well known in the Middle East beverage industry having spent over 20 years in various locations and positions within the Pepsi system. 

Currently CEO of Dubai Refreshment Company (DRC), Pepsico's largest independent bottler in the lower gulf. DRC has over 1000 employees and Dh 1 billion annual turnover. It is the leading carbonated soft drinks maker in the UAE, and one of the oldest and most successful beverage producers in the Gulf. Tarek joined DRC in August of 2008 and has since led a major transformation in the company that has made it one of the most successful turnaround stories in the Dubai Financial Market with the market cap increasing by over fivefold since he took over. 

Prior to DRC Tarek was General Manager of Jordan Ice and Aerated Water Co. the Pepsico wholly owned bottling business in Jordan. In Jordan Tarek spent 4 years from 2004 to 2008 and left the company to one of the most successful periods in its history with revenue, share and profits hitting record highs and transforming the business from returnable to non-returnable and he launched Pepsi's entry into bottled water with Aquafina. 

Prior to Jofan Tarek had spent 11 years in PepsiCo in various functions and although his educational background is in Finance and accounting, he spent most of his career in marketing and commercial jobs, including being the Colas Marketing Director for Pepsi Middle East. 

Prior to Pepsico's career, Tarek spent 6 years (from 1987 to 1993) with Procter and Gamble in Geneva and in Saudi Arabia in both Finance and marketing roles. In addition to his work experience, he is an accomplished Tennis player who among other things had the privilege to represent his country of Egypt in Junior Wimbledon and the Davis Cup. 

 Alexander van 't Riet, Chief Executive Officer of Mai Dubai

Alexander van ‘t Riet is CEO of Mai Dubai LLC, a leading regional bottled water company. He has over 25 years of experience in operations, sales, marketing, strategic consulting and general management.


Alexander has worked for multinationals like Air Products, Gemini Consulting and Avery Dennison and was a board member in global equity-owned companies like Innovia Films and Constantia Flexibles. Alexander lived in 7 European counties, the Middle East and the USA, and is the author of the book “In pursuit of Chocolate”.


Alexander earned BBA from Oglethorpe University and a MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management.

 

 Volker Spiesmacher, Sales and Marketing Director of Bericap

Volker Spiesmacher, born in 1954, graduated as an Economist in 1984 from the University of Mainz, Germany. He has been working in the packaging industry since 1986 and during this time has held  various positions, including working as Sales Manager for Tetra Pak Germany.In Russia he was appointed Deputy General Director at JV Progress, a food processing company producing apple concentrates and which was at that time the second largest juice bottler in the region. The company was a joint venture between Tetra Pak and the Russian State.

In Serbia Volker gained experience as Sales Director for Tetra Pak, building up the new sales organisation after the crises in the former Yugoslavia.Back in Germany he held the position of Vice President – Sales & Services, Europe/Asia for White Cap, a company of Schmalbach Lubeca, which became first Amcor White Cap and subsequently Silgan White Cap. In this role he gained management experience in many countries, including across Europe as well as in Asia and South America.

 Michael Adams, Founder and Managing Director or WET Group

Michael is the inventor and driving force behind the company’s technical innovation with nearly 40 years of experience in delivering enhanced water quality. 

He began his career and lifelong interest in water in 1976 with Alcan Aluminum (now Rio Tinto Alcan) as a water effluent pre-treatment technician and ultimately becoming the senior water effluent chemist. For over ten years, he was responsible for using chemistry, operations and engineering expertise to ensure the correct pH was maintained for the waste water and to trouble shoot problems with water quality, water pollution and environmental issues. A key responsibility was to ensure the waste water effluent was maintained to the highest environmental standards.

After leaving Alcan, Michael managed and owned companies focused on water quality and management in the sports, hospitality and leisure, and beauty industries. During this time, he developed expertise in the management and recording of water usage. At the same time, he built up his network within Elite sports and introduced the brand name of Pure Ionic Water which is today used by the leading Sports Clubs and Federations around the World and is the name of the product that is created for the Beverage Industry with WET’s technology. With many years of R & D with developing the technology and patent applications for a number of variants, WET now offers fully sustainable solutions with their technology to Beverages, Agriculture, Oil & Water waste, Marine and Elite Sports industries. Michael’s focus now is very much on education in the beverage industry as WET’s solution offers a sustainable, no waste product that can create the best Alkaline water on the planet to whatever pH the client requires with no ionisation or electrolytes. The technology not only allows the beverages to be alkaline but also flavoured with no  sugar meaning that WET also have the best base product for any brands bottling Zero/Low Sugar soft drinks, Fermented Drinks, Zero Alcohol, CBD/Hemp drinks and Tea Fusions to name just a few so wherever there is water, WET can revolutionise the way its being used.

Both an FD and MD with an MBA from University of Manchester and Wharton working in Iran, Dubai, Africa, US and Europe in different industry sectors including Oil and Gas, Construction, Aerospace, Automotive, Waste Management and FMCG Food and Beverage.

25 years as an independent business turnaround executive level director most recently applying his experience turning around National Mineral Water Company, a publicly quoted company based in Oman which bottles, markets, sells and distributes the Tanuf, Jabal Akhdar, Assaha and Salsabeel brands for the Oman market.

 

Habiba Al Mar'ashi, President of Arabia CSR Network and Co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group

Habiba Al Mar’ashi is the Co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group.

(EEG), a pioneering non-governmental organisation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). She single handedly established Arabia CSR Network, as the MENA region’s pioneering and only multi-stakeholder platform with local and multi-national entities. Under her leadership, both organisations achieved tremendous success and repute, emerging as preferred partners across sectors. She guided EEG to become the first environmental NGO in the world to receive An ISO 14001 certification. She is also a co-founder of the Emirates Green Building Council and serves as its Vice Chair and Treasurer. Mrs. Al Mar’ashi has been actively associated in leadership roles in global bodies such as UN Global Compact, UNEP (civil society

representative), Global Reporting Initiative Stakeholder Council GRI, World Green Building Council, Advisory Committee of the Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL) Certification Advisory Board for the Middle East, and Patronage Committee of myclimate.

 Roberta Barbieri, Vice President - Global Sustainability for PepsiCo

Roberta Barbieri is PepsiCo’s Vice President for Global Sustainability with over 20 years of experience in environmental sustainability. In her role with PepsiCo, Roberta is accountable for executing PepsiCo’s Performance with Purpose sustainability strategy, with specific responsibility for integration of sustainability into core business processes, and for delivery of PepsiCo’s goals on Climate, Water Stewardship, Waste, and Sustainable Packaging.  Before joining PepsiCo, Roberta worked for Diageo, where she held the position of Global Environmental Director and served as the principal architect of Diageo's Global Environmental Sustainability strategy.

Roberta currently serves on the steering committees of the 2030 Water Resources Group and the World Economic Forum’s Global Plastics Action Partnership.  She is past chair of the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable’s Water Working Group and has served on the steering committee for the CEO Water Mandate.  Roberta holds an MS in Environmental Engineering and an MS in Environmental Science from the University of New Haven, as well as a BS in Environmental Conservation and International Studies from the University of New Hampshire.  In addition to her native English, Roberta speaks Spanish and Italian.

 Vincent Crasnier, Head of One Planet One Health for Danone Waters

Vincent is head of One Planet One Health and reports in to Executive VP Waters member of Danone Executive Committee. He leads Sustainable Development strategy and transformation on Circular Packaging (new bottle collection and recycling) worldwide, Carbon Neutrality on Brands (Evian…) and Water Stewardship programs. One Health initiatives like Naturality and Water Access.

Prior to this, he was Senior Vice-President Pledge for Danone North America and lead a cross-functional team to implement The Dannon Pledge program reporting to the President of US Yogurt Business (2bn$ in sales). The transformation program includes Sustainable Agriculture, Transparency and Naturality shifting 50% of brands to Non-GMO with positive business impact. Manages stakeholders and partner NGO’s. Build strategy on Beyond Organic and joined Regenerative Organic Certification initiative with Patagonia.

Carlo Galli, Head of Sustainability from Nestlé Waters

Carlo is Italian and has been with Nestlé since 1991. He has a deep and extensive knowledge of Nestlé’s operations worldwide with specific focus on water resources.

Carlo joined Nestlé Waters in 1991 in Italy and managed natural mineral water concessions of key brands such as Levissima, Panna and S.Pellegrino. In 2005, he was appointed as the Head of Water Resources at the Nestle’s global bottled beverages division (Nestlé Waters). Carlo joined Nestlé Group Corporate Operations in 2008 and successfully redefined the water stewardship strategy for all Manufacturing facilities and agricultural supply chain.

Carlo played a key role in the elaboration of the new International Water Stewardship Standard. He has become an active member of the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Technical Committee and has received the “2017 Water Stewardship” prize. He is currently an AWS Board member.

In his new capacity as Head of Sustainability for Nestlé Waters, Carlo especially leads the two key strategic areas of water and plastic stewardship which contribute to the resilience and growth of our water business.

He is playing a key role in ensuring deployment of the certification commitments recently made by Nestlé Waters - 100% of factories to be AWS certified by 2025 and in setting up the new plastic stewardship strategy aimed at ensuring a circular economy for our bottled water packaging.

Paul Thomson, Water & Envrionment Director at Zenith Global Ltd

Paul is Director of the Zenith Global Water & Environment team. He has over 15 years’ experience in the fields of water resources and hydrogeology and is a Chartered Geologist.

Paul has successfully delivered a wide range of projects and initiatives across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central and East Asia. He provides technical leadership for Zenith Global water resource projects and has a strong focus on source risk assessment, borehole installation and testing, and technical due diligence. He is also an experienced Expert Witness.

Paul holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Sussex, a Maîtrise in Environmental Science from Montpellier University, and a DESS in Hydrogeology from Avignon University. Paul is fluent in English and French.

Dr Isao Noda, Chief Science Officer of Danimer Scientific

Isao Noda was born in Tokyo, Japan.  He came to the United States in 1969 and was graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York in 1974 with B.S. degree in chemical engineering.  He received his M.S. in bioengineering (1976), as well as M.Phil. (1978) and Ph.D. (1979) in chemical engineering also from Columbia.  In 1997 he received D.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University of Tokyo. 

He worked for the Procter and Gamble Company in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1978 to 2012.  After retiring from P&G, he became the Chief Science Officer and Senior Vice President of Innovation at Danimer Scientific in Bainbridge, Georgia.  He also holds a position of Affiliated Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of University of Delaware. 

His main expertise is in the broad area of polymer science.  He is well known for the invention of a novel class of bio-based and fully biodegradable plastics based on medium-chain-length branched poly(hydroxyalkanoate) copolymers (mcl-PHAs) now commercialized under the tradename of Nodax™ by Danimer Scientific.  He has about ninety (90) patents granted in the US and the EU, published over four hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals, and coauthored three books. 

Khaled Ismail, Vice President Communications - Europe, Central Aisa, Middle East and Africa for Tetra Pak

Khaled is the VP Communications for Europe, Central Asia, Middle East & Africa Region with over 18 years of service in Tetra Pak.

He has more than 28 years’ experience, which started in advertising and then continued in international sales, marketing and branding in FMCG (B2C) and Food Packaging Industries (B2B), including Tetra Pak and The Coca-Cola Company.

Khaled has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University - Canada. He also completed several executive programmes in leadership and management at Ashridge - UK, IMD - Switzerland and Harvard Business School - USA. 

Khaled is Chairman and Board Member of the Marketing Society Middle East, book author and a regular speaker at International events and conferences around the world.

Rali Sanderson, Executive Vice President - International at Niagara Bottling

Rali Sanderson is Executive Vice President of International, Product Development, and Contract Manufacturing. He also serves on Niagara’s Executive Board, and is Chairman of the Niagara Advisory Board in Mexico, the Board of Nu-Pure Beverages in Australia, and the Board of Shepley Springs in the U.K..  Niagara has experienced a phenomenal 35% CAGR during his 16 year tenure. At the same time, he has minimized Niagara’s environmental impact per unit by more than 50%.  Rali graduated from the University of Denver’s Daniels School of Business with a major in International Business and Honors Studies, and from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.  He current lives in Southern California with his wife Briana and two children.

Carlo Pontecorvo, Chief Executive Officer of Ferrarelle, Italy

Carlo Pontecorvo, after graduating with honors in Medicine and Surgery with a specialization in General Surgery in 1979, worked in the General Surgery Division of the University Hospital of Naples until 1990. He left Surgery to follow his family's businesses, including a glass container company for food use (AVIR SpA) with more than twenty plants in Europe and sales for more than 600 million Euros.

After having sold the business to the American multinational company Owens Illinois Inc. in 1997, in 1998 he established and became Chairman and CEO of LGR Holding SpA.

In January 2005 LGR Holding SpA acquired Italaquae SpA from the Danone Group, which was given the name Ferrarelle SpA, and Carlo Pontecorvo became Chairman and CEO of this new company, which now owns the mineral waters Ferrarelle, Vitasnella, Fonte Essenziale, Boario, Santagata, Natía and distributes the Evian brand in exclusivity for Italy.

In 2007, LGR Holding SpA acquired a stake in HAT SpA.

Since 2016, LGR Holding SpA has been a shareholder of Banca Regionale di Sviluppo SpA.

In August 2017 Ferrarelle SpA acquired from the fund Octopus Europe Limited the 99% of the shares of Amedei srl, of which Carlo Pontecorvo became President, bringing back under the Italian flag this further brand of Italian excellence in the chocolate sector.

Carlo Pontecorvo is also a advisor of the Telethon Foundation, FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano and Mineracqua - Federazione Italiana delle Industrie delle Acque Minerali.

In 2011 he was awarded with the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro.

 Dr Angie Lang, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Swirlit

Practicing dentist and entrepreneur, Angie launched a beverage company, Swirlit. Seeking to provide alternatives to sugary and acidic drinks with a focus on oral health, the Swirlit functional beverage range is a world first. 

Seeing first hand the damage caused by sugary and acidic drinks, Angie’s goal is to prevent people’s exposure to common dental problems through scientifically backed healthy drinks, and in turn improve population health. The road to product launch included 10 years of research and development. 

Angie holds degrees in Nuclear Medicine, Dental Surgery and Health Law from the University of Sydney, and a postgraduate degree in Strategy and Innovation from Saïd Business School at Oxford University.

Joe Katterfield, Business Development Manager - Sports Nutrition & Health Foods at Arla Foods Ingredients

Joe Katterfield, Business Development Manager EMEA, Arla Foods Ingredients, Denmark

Joe Katterfield is a business development manager at Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI), a global leader in value-added whey protein ingredients and a subsidiary of Arla Foods Amba, headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark.

He is a member of the strategic business unit ‘health & performance nutrition', a commercial group that focuses on the development and supply of unique whey protein ingredients, to enable cutting-edge consumer products within beverage, health and high-end sports nutrition categories.

One of his main activities is the analysis of market developments, product launches, consumer trends and purchase drivers relating to functional protein beverages, to create inspirational product concepts and resources that promote AFI's whey protein ingredient portfolio. In addition, he guides prospective beverage brands and manufacturers on protein beverage concept development and technical considerations, to support new product development that increases business opportunities in this growing category.

Before joining AFI, for 8 years Joe worked in R & D for numerous food and beverage manufacturers, launching commercial beverages and nutritional products into the UK, Denmark, and the USA. 

Joe holds an MSc Food Science from the University of Reading, and BSc Sport & Exercise Nutrition from Leeds Carnegie.

Sean Moran, Founder of EauLab

Seán Moran is the founder of EauLab® - a start up beverage brand that utilizes the botanical power of plant-based ingredients and other raw ingredients to offer purer, truer, more natural body-helpful water.

EauLab® debuted at the International Food & Drink Event (IFE) in London earlier in 2019 to great acclaim. It achieved finalist for Best Brand, Best Drink Concept and Best Health & Wellness Drink in the World Food Innovation Awards held by FoodBev Media in association with IFE.
