The 2021 event will feature two days of online conference sessions and networking opportunities, with additional elements for those attending in person, including vertical farm tours, produce tasting, policy forums and training courses. About the event
Following the success of the inaugural 2020 event, attended by 180 delegates from 40 countries, Zenith Global is delighted to return with an expanded 2nd Vertical Farming World Congress.
Bringing together vertical farming operators, investors, suppliers and customers, the event will again assemble key industry leaders from around the globe, to debate and advance the future’s sector.
This will be a hybrid event, allowing for both virtual and in-person attendance.
There will be two days of conference sessions, where industry leaders, innovators, suppliers, advisers and investors will share their insights through a series of presentations, interviews and interactive panel discussions. Attendees joining in person at London Heathrow will additionally have access to vertical farm tours, produce tasting, policy forums and training courses.
Extensive networking opportunities, from dedicated networking breaks and group workshops to welcome receptions, will enable all delegates to connect with other industry peers.
The inaugural Vertical Farming World Congress programme featured the most authoritative speakers ever assembled for the sector. Chris is the President and General Manager of Hort Americas, LLC (HortAmericas.com) a wholesale supply company servicing all aspects of the commercial horticultural industries.
Over the past years Hort Americas has had a special focus on horticultural lighting, hydroponics substrate and nutrient management making them one of the leading resources for greenhouse and vertically farmed vegetable growers. He is also owner of UrbanAgNews.com (online education content provider) and was a founding partner of the Foundation for the Development of Controlled Environment Agriculture and the International Congress on Controlled Environment Agriculture in Panama. With over 20 years of industry experience, Chris is dedicated to the commercial horticulture industry and is inspired by the current opportunities for continued innovation in the field of controlled environment agriculture. Chris is a leader in providing technical assistance to businesses, including commercial greenhouse operations, state-of-the-art hydroponic vegetable facilities, vertical farms, and tissue culture laboratories. In his role at Hort Americas he works with seed companies, manufacturers of horticultural supplies and equipment, growers and universities regarding the development of projects, new products and ultimately the creation of brands. Chris’ role includes everything from sales and marketing to technical support and general management/owner responsibilities.

Eri Hayashi is Vice President/Director of International Relations and Consulting, Japan Plant Factory Association (JPFA), a non-profit organisation devoted to academic and business advancements in the Plant Factory / Vertical Farm/CEA industry.
After studying the global food industry and engaging in multinational projects of global organisations, she joined a private research/consulting institute in Tokyo as a researcher specialising in the technology advancement for global food production systems. She has been conducting international field research on the Vertical Farming / Controlled Environment Agriculture industry since 2008, and has published numerous research papers. She has been a research project manager for a national project on artificial intelligence- a phenotyping- based smart plant factory system for environmental control and breeding. Since 2015, she has joined the Japan Plant Factory Association. She is also the chief executive officer of E*Green Lab Inc.

Cindy van Rijswick
Expert – Fresh Produce for Rabobank Research Food & Agribusiness, Netherlands
Cindy is a senior research analyst within the 80-strong global Rabobank Research Food & Agribusiness team.
She covers the international fresh fruit and vegetable sectors and published numerous articles and reports on various topics including vertical farming, the Dutch glasshouse sector, and sustainability. Indoor farming is one of her key focus areas. She is covering the complete supply chain from grower to consumer and has engaged with various stakeholders along the supply chain. Cindy has been a keynote speaker at several international fresh produce events such as Greentech, Fruit Logistica, PMA, the Urban Greenhouse Challenge, Future of Food. Her research and analyses are key deliverables for Rabobank customers and prospects, both in the corporate and rural domains.
Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of S2G Ventures
Sanjeev has nearly 20 years of experience in sourcing, executing, managing and exiting venture and private equity investments, with a focus in agriculture and food companies.
As Managing Director, Sanjeev is active in developing investments and managing portfolio companies as well as serving on many portfolio company boards. His portfolio work ranges from genetics, crop protection, soil health, digital/IOT, crop insurance, merchandising, indoor agriculture, novel flavour and ingredients, new protein development, unique processors and brands that will feed the changing consumer. He is passionate about the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, markets and system investing as a theory of change. Sanjeev has worked in the intersection of sustainability, technology and health in many regions, including Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. He has invested over $500 mm in venture and growth stage firms throughout his career. Sanjeev began investing as a co-founder of the life sciences practice of the IFC, the $99 billion private investment arm of the World Bank. His previous investment roles include CLSA Capital Partners, Global Environment Fund, World Bank Group’s IFC and JPMorgan. Sanjeev is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Mark has been involved in the Vertical Farming industry for around 8 years. He is the Founder & Chairman of UK Urban AgriTech (UKUAT) collective, bringing together the leading companies, universities & individuals in the UK urban agritech industry.
He is also Communications Manager at The FarmTech Society, the Co-Founder of The Soya Project, and does freelance consulting work across the industry. In his work he has dealt extensively with industry standardisation, sustainability certification, vertical farming education and vertical farming policy. His expertise is in building networks and associations that maximise value for their members, and for the industry as a whole. Mark’s primary interest is in taking a systemic overview of how vertical farming can be integrated with other systems, to deliver on its promises of regenerative food production and resilient societies.

Location and hotel
The 2021 event will be held as a hybrid event, incorporating both virtual and live in-person elements.
For attendees joining live in-person, the Congress will be held at the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel, a contemporary and ideally located venue for those travelling to the UK from abroad, with quick and easy access into central London.
For delegates wishing to book accommodation, an allocation of rooms at the Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel, will be available at negotiated rates between 20-22 September, on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.

In-person event attendees
For those attending the Congress in-person, VAT will be charged at the prevailing UK rate, currently 20%. The rate may be subject to change.
If the coronavirus pandemic should prohibit Zenith Global hosting the in-person event in London Heathrow in September, attendees will have the option to cancel their in-person booking at no charge or convert the booking to the virtual event, receiving a refund of the difference between the price paid and the virtual delegate rate.
Visas may be required from some countries. Zenith Global will be happy to help with visa support and documents where possible.
