38 acquisitions in December
Another 38 food and drink transactions have been recorded on the bevblog.net database for December 2013, with three involving sums over $500 million:
• $8,200 million for Sysco’s purchase of US Foods from private equity giants Clayton Dubilier Rice and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts amongst others.
• €1,000 million sales from Elivia in France, where Ireland’s Dawn Meats took a minority stake
• $600 million for WhiteWave Foods to buy Earthbound Farm in the United States.
The spread of the 38 was more mixed than usual, with 5 in dairy, 4 in soft drinks and 3 each in alcohol, equipment, nutrition and packaging.
The United States featured in 23, 13 within the country plus 5 purchases abroad and 5 foreign sales. France was next on 4, followed by China, Germany, Turkey and the United Kingdom on 3 apiece.
