2016 started energetically in terms of food and drink transactions, with 52 recorded on the bevblog.net mergers and acquisitions database for January.
3 exceeded $500 million in value:
• $17,000 million sales for the US alcohol distribution merger of Southern Wine & Spirits with Glazer’s
• €925 million for ChemChina to buy Germany’s KraussMaffei packaging business
• $543 million for the US purchase of the Southern Comfort and Tuaca spirits brands by Sazerac from Brown-Forman.
Of the 52 total, 11 were in packaging, 10 in alcohol, 7 in soft drinks, 6 in dairy and 6 in ingredients.
22 involved the United States, followed by the United Kingdom on 9, China on 6, then Denmark and France on 5.
Unusually Finland, Ireland and Israel featured in 3 each alongside Germany.
