66 acquisitions in August
66 food and drink transactions were recorded on the Zenith Global mergers and acquisitions database in August.
4 of these amounted to more than $500 million, including 2 over $2,000 million:
- $4,700 million in nutrition for private equity giant Blackstone to buy DNA Insights from Ancestry in United States
- $2,600 million in nutrition again for Swiss based Nestlé to purchase the rest of US based Aimmune Therapeutics
- $610 million in spirits for UK based Diageo to gain control of US based Davos Brands
- $550 million in agribusiness for US based Archer Daniels Midland to reduce its stake in Wilmar of Singapore.
Of the 66 total, 9 were in soft drinks, 7 in alcohol, 5 in vertical farming, 4 in dairy, 4 in nutrition, 4 in packaging, 4 in snacks, 3 in hot drinks and 3 in ingredients. 25 of the 66 were funding rounds, 8 were in free from categories.
26 were international and 40 were domestic including 30 in the United States, 5 in the United Kingdom and 2 in South Africa.
Overall, the United States featured in 47, the United Kingdom in 11, Canada in 5, the Netherlands in 4, Switzerland in 4 and France in 3.
