Aspartame aspersions
For as long as aspartame has been around, its critics have been casting aspersions.
I can sympathise with Coca-Cola’s new advertising to point out that “the safety of aspartame is supported by more than 200 studies over the last 40 years.”
I rather question, however, the stance of the US Center for Science in the Public Interest. It declares aspartame “has been found to cause cancer”, but then almost encourages its use by commenting that “the greater and more immediate danger to … health is posed not by artificial sweetened products, but by the full-calorie versions”.
