Road bridge made from plastic bottles
After discovering that used PET bottles can be turned into light bulbs (21 September), I now find that recycled bottles are being converted into road bridges.
The first in Europe was installed last month in Scotland. It took soldiers just four days to build it, with 50 tonnes of waste plastic. The new bridge does not need painting and will not rust. It is strong enough to be driven across by heavy goods vehicles.
There are already four other similar bridges in operation, all in the United States.
