UK recycling shame
Next week is Recycle Week in Britain. All extra attention to recycling has to be welcome.
It is also welcome that recycling has increased. For plastic bottles, the latest UK rate is 48%. This is less than it should be, but the figure will soon pass the 50% mark and that’s progress.
So where’s the shame ? It’s not only a shame, but also shameful, that 10% of local authorities still do not offer plastic bottle collection services.
In Northern Ireland, it’s 0%. In Wales, it’s 0%. In England, however, it’s 11%. And in Scotland, it’s 12%. If you live in one of these authority areas, don’t let it be your shame too.
